Yes but: A solitary kidney, if completely healthy, will be expected to provide adequate function for life. Some people are born with on kidney and they do very well unless develop an illness e.g. Diabetes, hypertension, etc. Hence the importance of close medical evaluation of the donor that includes history, exam, and lab.
