A member asked:

Is fecal calprotectin usually sensitive enough to detect crohns exclusive to the small intestine? if the results are normal is crohns (even exclusive to the small bowel) very unlikely? (my levels were <5 ug?

It is important to note that calprotectin test results are more representative of inflammation in the colon than inflammation in the small intestine. This means that the test cannot always accurately detect all forms of IBD. Crohn’s disease, for example, may only affect the small intestine. I would prefer more clinical info before ruling out limited form of crohn's disease entirely. Take care.
