A member asked:

Should you be getting hiv tests after being cut and pricked with inanimate objects with possible recent blood on them? or is it impossible to get hiv from objects in the environment excluding needles?

The germ is quite fragile in the open environment. It dies quicky unless it is in fresh blood. Objects with dried blood/secretions would not be considered a worrisome exposure for HIV.

Maybe it's not "impossible", but the risk is very near zero. In the entire history of the worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic, there has never been a known case of HIV being acquired in this manner. The same for used drug needles -- it hasn't been known to happen. Testing is not necessary or recommended.
