A member asked:

I have a report which reads: bilateral scattered areas of ill defined subcortical white matter attenuation are indeterminate for this age. further characterisation by mri is suggested. should i be concerned. 58 yr old female?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

This issue has been addressed numerous times and the answer remains the same. The report is nondiagnostic and nonspecific. Correlations could include smoking, prior head injury, migraine, microvascular angiopathy, recreational drugs, changes in aging, and many others. You will need to discuss this with the doctor who ordered the test in the first place. No critical finding is described.
