I broke one of my tarsal bones and was given a cam boot which i have been wearing 24/7 but the pain is still excruciating. would it be weird to ask for a cast? i am wondering if less movement would decrease pain?

Yes. You should be in a non weight bearing cast period. Even possible surgery if joint is involved. Seek second opinion.
