A member asked:

Can not exercising and eating a lot of sugar/sugary drinks cause liver alt enzyme to be 100 during a 2 month timeframe? my sons level was 80 in may and now it is 100. he eats a lot of healthy food but also consumes a lot of sugar. he is 22 and slim?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

An ALT level of 100 usually indicates liver pathology. He is best off being evaluated by a hepatologist or gastroenterologist for evaluation and appropriate testing. I assume alcohol excess isn't an issue. Heavy carbohydrate intake leads to high triglycerides which can accumulate in the liver.
