All patients with history of coronary heart disease (CAD), diabetic or not, should be treated with high intensity statin (if needed), in order to keep LDL less than 70. Diabetic patients should have LDL less than 70 due to high risk for CAD. LDL below 100 is ideal for the rest of adults but whether statin should be used or not to keep LDL below 100 will depend on cardiovascular risk factors.
