High gastric acidity and H. pylori infection (chronic) are the most common causes. Other causes could be medications or other acute bacterial, viral infections. etc. If your GI doctor does not suspect cancer by endoscopic appearance then you have nothing to worry, just patiently wait for the pathology result and take acid suppression drug(s) in the mean time.
