HSV-1 or 2 can cause localized infections in the mouth/lips or on the genitals. It is more inconvenience than a threat. It is from a family of DNA viruses that can hibernate after the primary infection clears and recur at the same location on multiple occasions. An oral hickey on the chest will not cause any transfer of the germ to the recipient & trigger oral or genital herpes.
