I have been taking 40 mg of protonix for acid reflux. i have trouble swallowing pills. my pharmacist said it was ok to cut the pill in half even though i read you shouldn't cut or crush pills. it has been helping me with my acid reflux. is it ok?

You are correct. Tablet should not be cut because it will loose the delayed effect. You can request either 2 tablets of 20 mg or the oral liquid formula (delayed release oral suspension granules) and I hope your insurance will cover it with pre-auth by your doctor. Good luck.

Protonix is not designed to be able to be cut in half. If you have trouble swallowing the 40 mg tablets, you may consider asking your pharmacist for 20 mg tablets instead and take two of them. They are smaller. They are best taken about 20 to 30 minutes before eating some food. Good luck.
