Constipation because of iron supplement is more myth than reality. If you truly believe it you will blame it for any daily discomfort. The physical complications of anemia are real. You can either change your diet to get more iron containing foods, take an iron supplement, or just ignore the iron deficiency. A consult with a clinical nutritionist (med school/children's hospital) may help with both

Most people who take an iron supplement for low ferritin do not develop any problems of constipation, although some do. It is important to have an adequate amount of iron in your body. If your doctor recommends it, you should give it a try. If you do develop constipation, let them know, and they can alter the regimen. Good luck.
