You can but it may disturb your natural sleep pattern. The need to sleep in sitting position may also belie an underlying medical condition that needs further evaluation. I would definitely discuss this need with your PCP so that he can further evaluate you medically for something else going on.

Difficult situation as probably symptoms, such as pain or shortness of breath among the most common, are prompting sleeping in a sitting position. Symptoms may become worse unfortunately making sleep difficult even in a sitting position.
