Recurrent Severe headaches should be investigated by a Neurologist. You should not keep going back to the ER for this condition as there is nothing more that they can do there. The radiation from an individual head CT scan is 2mSv, equivalent to about 8 months of background radiation from the environment. The information they get is vital and includes ruling out brain tumors, etc.

First, the ER is the worst place to go for a headache, as it is brightly lit, noisy, stressful, and expensive, all of which can worsen a headache! Secondly, see a neurologist and get this thoroughly addressed. Thirdly, 3 CAT scans in one month are excessive and likely unnecessary! Fourthly, you will NOT get sick from the studies, and cancer will not occur.
