A member asked:

I went to a psychiatrist for ocd diagnosis, after 2-weeks of having chronic stress & anxiety of hiv-infection. he said symptoms after a stressful event is "tainted". i need time to re-adjust to normal, to establish base behavior for ocd. is it true ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

I think what he was saying is that If you have OCD you are likely to notice that your symptoms get worse when you are experiencing more stress than normal. Suddenly, our compulsive intrusive thoughts become stronger and more difficult to deal with. Therefore, when the stress settles, so does your level of OCD to your normal baseline. He described your stress as "tainting" your OCD.
