A member asked:

Why are ace and arbs antihypertensives prescribed to people even if they do not have hypertension, but with protein in the urine? please enlighten me. thank you?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

At least with diabetes it's well established that these meds reduce or prevent proteinuria. I know that in the case of light chain nephropathy as seen in myeloma or AL amyloidosis, it is somewhat controversial to use these meds to reduce proteinuria as there is some concern that kidney function may worsen.
