For low renin essential hypertension, I favor including slow acting diuretics into the mix. It's likely you'll require another medication to get good control. If an ARB is used I don't recommend a potassium sparing diuretic as high potassium levels will be a threat. Hydrochlorothiazide would be my choice of diuretic. Although losartan is a once a day ARB,I found taking it twice daily was needed.
