A member asked:

My 5 year old son has tubes in his ears. he swam a lot today and without researching/reading, i put swimmers ear drops in his ear. he had really bad pain. afterwards i read that it can cause permanent hearing loss. is it common with 1 application?

A single application is likely just to cause a mild burning/irritation of the sensitive membranes in the middle ear. It should recover with no treatment if you leave it alone.
