Atrophic gastritis may be for longer and probably more chronic inflammation that has resulted in the changes of the gastric mucosa causing atrophy, that means it is less thick than expected. The mild chronic gastritis suggest something that is being going on for a while but is mild with not much structural changes to the mucosa apart from the inflammation.

The difference is mostly in severity. Mild chronic gastritis has inflammation of the stomach lining but very little effect on the lining itself. Atrophic gastritis beans that the lining of the stomach itself has deteriorated. If H. pylori is present, it needs to be treated. Speak to your G.I. doctor about any particular potential treatments. Good luck.
