A simple hemoglobin blood test is the most common screening test for anemia. Low hemoglobin is also part of anemia & usually means low iron since iron is the rate limiting factor in blood creation, There are also specific iron & potassium blood tests.

The most commonly used tests in medicine, CBC or complete blood count along with a basic metabolic panel (BMP) should determine if having anemia or abnormal potassium. If having anemia iron studies will help in further elucidating if iron deficiency is contributing.
