A member asked:

After being sick with (what's suspected) human metapneumovirus, i hear a faint clicking sound in my left ear every time i yawn. could this be an indicator of something more serious? i do not have tinnitus (i went to an ent). i've had tmj for 10 years?

Some causes of a clicking sound in the ear that occurs during yawning, could be temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder. Which can cause a variety of symptoms, jaw pain, difficulty opening the mouth, and clicking or popping sounds when the jaw moves. In some cases, these sounds can be heard in the ear. Another possible cause of clicking sounds in the ear is eustachian tube dysfunction.
