I recently had a hida scan. it showed that my gallbladder had an ejection rate of 9%. my only symptom has been upper right abdominal pain and tenderness. it isn't constant. do i really need to have my gallbladder removed?

You don't mention whether you have gall stones. If you do, I certainly would recommend laporoscopic removal of your gall bladder in view of your symptoms. Otherwise it would be like living with a time bomb,never knowing if&when emergency surgery would be needed. If no gall stones, consult an abdominal surgeon for an opinion.

Hello ejection fraction of the gallbladder can be an indication that the gallbladder is not functioning properly, and he can result in episodes of pain similar to gallstone pain. If your pain and symptoms persist and your surgeon recommends it, you may want to consider gallbladder removal. Good luck.
