A member asked:

Very good morning doctors. my sixty year-old friend went to the ophthalmologist and was told he has ebmd. could you please explain this condition? it was found coincidentally to his having cataract surgery. could the surgery possibly worsen the ebmd?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

I am assuming that you mean ABMD (anterior basement membrane disease) which is a disease that causes loose corneal epithelium leaving the patient prone to corneal abrasions. The surgeon will be careful not to cause an abrasion during cataract surgery. Tell your friend to keep his eyes lubricated.
