The lungs have a structure like a tree. They don't collapse after coughing. If an air leak is caused when a lung bleb opens, air can get between the chest wall and the lung structure. That can get bad. This is what the lay term for lung collapse is describing. I would be aware that prolonged coughing can cause problems & should be evaluated, but I wouldn't freak out over this concept.
