Usually not: The endotracheal tube may be irritating and uncomfortable, however, if you are extubated in the operating room, most patients will recall very little of this brief experience.

No: Over 90% of patient won't remember the extubation of the endotracheal tube or lma after ga. And if they remember, won't be unpleasant. Patients will be more awake during that period if severe lung conditions, difficulty during placing the tube, severe obesity with bmi over 40, history of obstructive sleep apnea. During the surgery should be no recall. Pain will be minimum - mild scratchy throat.

See below: The endotracheal tube is taken out at the ned of the operation when you can protect your airway and breathe on your own. However, you are neither "awake" nor "aware" of this happening. Most patients "wake-up" in the recovery room after being extubated, moved to a stretcher and transported to another room. In short, no it is not painful.
