A member asked:

Can any doc explain why are patients shaved after falling asleep or under general anesthesia and not while awake?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Clipping hair : We actually do both some patients are prepped before the operating room and some are after induction of general anesthesia. Actually shaving is not preferred anymore and clipping is the proper term. Electric clippers are recommended to remove hair at the surgical site. Shaving damages the skin and set up for infection at the hair follicle.
