A member asked:

Calf pain for over a year. mri shows edema. i thought i injured calf first and injured my back a few months later. can you have calf pain caused by back without back pain? should i go see spine doctor or neurologist? is emg or mri better?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Whatever you do go to another doctor. Always listen to what the patient tells you. They know what is happening to their body. Because you cannot view “damage” to the nerve via MRI. There are other methods to determine nerve damage or referred pain to the leg. Nerve conduction velocity tests can help in diagnosis. The nerve can be studied from back to toes. A neurologist might be helpful
