A member asked:

Calf(left)pain for a year, recent mri shows l5-s1 herniated disc and contact of the right s1 nerve root. but emg/nerve study result came normal. it didn't even show the s1 nerve roots issue. my doc suggests me for esi. do you agree?

If there are radiological findings supporting clinical signs and symptoms, all consistent with a nerve root compression at an appropriate level, the use of an epidural injection at that level can be both diagnostic and palliative. If you do indeed need more thorough advice, try a virtual consult here at HT (www.connect@healthtap.com).
