Is your husband seeing a psychiatrist? At that age, people can have a different response to antidepressants and dosing can be tricky because the elderly can metabolize medications differently. This may not be the right medication for him but a psychiatrist would be the best doctor to figure out the best medication as well as the correct dose for him. So, see a psychiatrist for further treatment.

Urge a second opinion, as at age 85, your husband would likely be inordinately sensitive to the anticholinergic adverse effects of Prozac. Likely cognitive problems have emerged secondarily. Do NOT, on your own, start adjusting dosing, but see a physician who can reassess this entire situation.

I agree that he should be seeing a psychiatrist & you shouldn't tinker with the dose. His lack of initiating verbal interaction could be a symptom of dementia which is often mistaken for depression.
