Would be interested to know exactly what prompted you to get the test initially. The high IgG implies that you have had this viral exposure for a while. Ig M exposure would denote that your exposure/activity was more recent. Suggest that both you and your wife obtain hsv testing for both types 1 and 2 and both IgG and IgM. After this, consider valtrex if results indicate and see dermatologist

Even when HSV1 is genital, it is rarely transmitted sexually. Antiviral treatment probably would not further reduce the already minuscule chance of transmission. Your many questions indicate you are seriously over concerned about your HSV1 blood test. Anyway, how big a deal would it be if your wife caught HSV1? Settle down!
