Is a ferritin level of 9 bad and if so how do you correct it?

Ferritin level of nine indicates iron deficiency anemia. Iron deficiency anemia is a laboratory abnormality. It is not a diagnosis. Because of iron deficiency anemia in a 51-year-old woman can be due to silent G.I. blood loss from stomach ulcer or cancer or colon cancer. It also can be from heavy Menstrual bleeding. This requires an evaluation by a physician.

Not bad, just low. Usual treatment is iron replacement, however work up for blood loss is needed and your ordering physician, usually the primary care doc will be able to coordinate properly.
