Amlodipine is typically taken once a day. Instead of 5 mg twice a day, the typical treatment is 10 mg once a day. But physicians do sometimes prescribe amlodipine 5 mg twice a day. After several weeks likely the two ways of treated would be no different in effect.

If one takes amlodipine for treatment of hypertension and the BP is not under optimal control, an increase of amlodipine to 5mg twice daily might be appropriate. However, it's important to discuss such a change with one's physician.
