I recently had an mri which states mild thickening of the posterior nasopharnyx. what does that mean? had the mri from ent trying to figure out why ive had an ear ache for over a year?

MRI was the assess for tumor, polyps, etc. Mild thickening is rathe generic unless you have a medical history which allows postulating a diagnosis. Could be related to nasal allergies, reflux, effects of smoke inhalation, etc. Have you had audiometry and tympanometry? Any jaw joint issues? Ear drainage? Did the ENT do an endoscopy of the nasopharynx?
