A member asked:

I had bacterial meningitis in the past. do i have any type of immunity or antibodies to it now? or am i just as susceptible as before?

There are multiple types of bacterial meningitis, each with a potential for immunity to the individual bacterial strain involved for a period of time. Immunity to one strain does not confer broad immunity to other strains or to the several other bacterial types that may cause meningitis. There are vaccines with the ability to provide broad protection. Thankfully it is an uncommon disease.

You are likely protected from recurrent infections from the original bacterial strain. However, if this was not meningococcal, a vaccination for this variation may be helpful if you suffer from immunocompetency issues. Discuss your concerns fully with your doctor.
