Intravenous: Bacterial meningitis is a life- threatening condition in which a combination of iv antibiotics is most commonly used. Please note that some types of meningitis benefit only from supportive treatment.

Varies: The meds are usually given intravenously to assure the highest effective concentration as quick as possible. The type is guided by the suspected cause of the meningitis or cultures from the spinal fluid itself. The treatment of a meningococcal meningitis would be quite different from that of tuberculosis.
