Occasional numbness in pinky and ring finger, what are the common causes of this?

Most likely ulnar nerve neuropathy. Read more: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/22272-ulnar-nerve-entrapment . Please see your PCP or an Orthopedist specializing in hands for further evaluation. You will likely need NSAIDS, a splint/brace, and/or physical therapy. Severe cases require surgery.

What you have is most likely due to impigement on your ulnar nerve, it is similar to carpal tunnel syndrome. You could read more about it on a search engine to better able manage it. There is entrapment along the path of the ulnar nerve causing the symptoms and you may consider a visit to a clinician for evaluation and management. It is probably mild and able to manage it if you read about it.
