A member asked:

I will have 2 overnights in the hospital directly after a colonoscopy procedure. i do not want to have residents coming into my room so frequently with or without my doctor. literally, how do i phrase this to my doctor?

You tell them you don't want the procedure at a teaching hospital. I am curious as to why this would require an overnight as for most it is done as an outpatient. If you doc works only at a teaching hospital this may or may not be an option. Residents perform valuable observations the docs rely on for good care. Please discuss it before you schedule any procedure to avoid any confusion at the time

Many hospitals have a parallel non teaching service, that will be an option. In the pile of papers you sign prior to a procedure, aside from complications you also are required to confirm your willingness to work with trainees.
