A member asked:

My 2 y daughter has adenoid removal surgery (persistent congestion) doctor said she also needs ear tube while she had just 2 ear infection in 1 month but ear full of fluid. does she really need ear tube and it doesnt damage eardrum?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

My general approach is tube for 5 OM in a year or one that won't clear after 2 mo in a 2 yo. Doing it at the same time as adenoid removal is smart if the kid is OM prone, saves another anesthesia later. The tubes shed and the ear drum self heals in most after a year or so. I don't consider tubes a problem.
