Outer ear infection: Keep water out of your ear while it heals. Use antibiotic ear drops. Make sure the ear drops go in. Let drops soak in for at least five minutes. Avoid scratching your ears.

Otitis externa: The most important thing about an outer ear infection is what is known as aural toilet. This means that in order for the ear to heal and for the eardrops to be effective, the ear needs suctioning and removal of infected debris. That's why seeing an ENT doctor is your best option.
