Can i take miralax long term while taking prednisone 2 mg for pmr i was told to take daily 17 grams for chronic constipation.also taking colace. thank you in advance?

Make sure you drink plenty of water daily while on Mira lax. It is an osmotic like polyethylene glycol which works by pulling water in your stool from the colon wall. It has no action on the nerve endings or the muscles of the colon hence you can take it long term. It has no effect on the intake with prednisone.

Try to increase the level of your physical activities, specifically walking as that will help the best for constipation and aside from optimizing fluid intake and diet. Gentle abdominal massage may help as well. Miralax remains a good choice otherwise ideally to be used as needed.
