Other options: If your potassium is low, your magnesium might be low as well. Try a magnesium supplement of about 200-250 mg once or twice day and make sure you are drinking a lot of water with the Colace (docusate sodium) since it works by holding water in the stool. Another supplement that can be helpful for constipation is Vitamin C 1000 mg once to three times per day. If you start getting diarrhea, decrease your doses.

Laxatives & low K: you can lose potassium if you have diarrhea but it's ok to take 2 colace (docusate sodium) per day for constipation. You can also try senna or Metamucil or citrucil to increase fiber and help constipation. You can also eat leafy green veggies and drink OJ and eat bananas to raise your potassium
