Telmisartan is an ARB class of meds used to treat hypertension. They are much less apt to have the side effect of a chronic irritating hacking cough from the trachea. ACE inhibitors like lisinopril are much more apt to cause this annoying side effect. Nevertheless, Your telmisartan may be causing your cough. ARBs & ACE inhibitors are important for kidney protection in diabetics though. Ask your MD
