A member asked:

What is the difference between cluster headaches and primary stabbing headaches? experiencing excruciating quick stabs of pain at one side of head throughout day diagnosed as primary stab but could it be cluster ? can have spells where it is ongoing?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Classical cluster headaches (AKA Horton's Cephalgia, Histamine Headaches), occur in groups, often daily for weeks in early am hrs. Pain is focal over one eye, lasting 30-60 min., severe enough to consider banging head against wall. Accompanied by focal tearing, nasal rhinorrhea, and reddening of eye. The entity of eye pick headache is a different migraine variant.
