A member asked:

Does steroid treat the type of optic neuropathy that are caused by antibiotics neuro toxicity?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Toxic optic neuropathy is not classical inflammatory neuritis, but intravenous methylprednisolone, plus discontinuation of the antibiotic might be successful. Since several antibiotics, especially chloramphenicol, and ciprofloxacin may cause the problem very rarely, there are variable courses of recovery, but most seem to resolve.
