A member asked:

Have eye style, about 1month old. warm compresses have not resolved. eye dr gave topical antib/steroid. is there an otc topical antibiotic i can buy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Be persistent: Most styes respond to frequent applications of heated washcloths - this must be done 4 minutes at a time for 5 times or more per day. Most do not do this often enough. Antibiotics rarely work as they cannot penetrate the lesion. If the condition is persistent, it could be another diagnosis. A second opinion might be in order with an ophthalmologist.
