Husband is an ak amputee. has little tissue over end of bone. a blister formed from the prosthetic. can see the bone thru open wound - not poking out. xray neg for infection. dr. gave abx. was advised to shower and wash wound. is this appropriate?

He should keep the prosthetic off until the wound heals. Washing it in the shower should be fine. He should see his prosthetist as the prosthetic will need to be adjusted and this will be easier for the prosthetist to do if he/she sees the wound. The prosthetist can also help with the wound treatment. Be sure to put an antibacterial ointment on the wound after cleaning it in the shower. Good luck!
