This medication does not affect the kidneys, but kidney disease may cause levels of tolterodine to increase because the kidneys are involved in removing this drug from the body. Determining whether a person should continue taking tolterodine and at what dose depend on the severity of the kidney disease. During stages 3 & 4, adjustments to the dose of tolterodine are often made.
