About 90% of adults with hypertension have the essential type that runs in families and may develop in your 30's or 40's. Since secondary causes like hyperaldosteronism, renovascular disease,, chronic kidney disease, pheochromocytoma,Cushing's syndrome, coarctation of aorta, hyperthyroidism are rare,we don't spend time testing for them without good clues. Lifestyle changes, meds as needed for 130/80

Majority of hypertension is primary or essential, in the range of 90-95% of total cases with only 5-10% secondary to medical causes, such as renal or renovascular, pheochromocytoma or hyperaldosteronism to name a few. Establishing with a nephrologist hypertension specialist should help in further elucidating the cause (if any) for your hypertension.
