Majority of hypertension is primary or essential, in the range of 90-95% of total cases with only 5-10% secondary to medical causes, such as renal or renovascular, pheochromocytoma or hyperaldosteronism to name a few. Establishing with a nephrologist hypertension specialist should help in further elucidating the cause (if any) for your hypertension.
