Peak flow is a measure of the of the air flow out of the lungs. This can vary throughtout the day/night in people without asthma. The peak flow only varies about 20% in a person without asthma (or 80% of best peak flow). If it varies more than that then it is an indication of asthma and it can also be used to assess how well someone with asthma is controlled with medication.
