A member asked:

I recently took a gut health test and this result came back: your gut microbiome shows excessive bile acid metabolism. what can i do to reduce the excessive bile acid or how should i interpret this result?

You do not reveal how this process evolved, but your best source for gastrointestinal advice would come from a gastroenterologist, not some online promotion. Get proactive, make an appointment, and receive skilled advice.

I just posted a reason for your condition. Don't treat yourself, see a gastroenterologist for exam and. treatment.

I assume not many of us clinicians are up to date on the relationship between gut bacteria and gut bile acid levels & metabolism and what role this plays in both causing illness and preventing illness. I recommend consulting a gastroenterologist with a special interest in this topic.

Laboratory evaluation can only be interpreted given the clinical situation in which it is presented. I would be especially interested in what kind of test was performed to determine that bile acid metabolism was increased. I would return to the gastroenterologist who performed the test for its interpretation. good luck.
