A member asked:

I keep getting sharp pains in my left shoulder, by ribs and in back when breath; chest is tender to touch, stretching helps but notice pain is more severe when i lay down or do too much moving and relief when i stretch or rest, what could it be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

This has characteristics of a nerve impingement, either an intercostal nerve that runs between two ribs or a nerve root by a bulging intervertebral disk in the neck at the C5 C6 level in the spine. An MRI would demonstrate this. Your symptoms on a deep breath don't suggest pleurisy or a lung cause. A neurologist could evaluate & advise you.
